Employment Opportunities in Nova Scotia

Under the Regional Labour Market Demand Stream for the Province of Nova Scotia in Canada, a job offer is not needed in order to apply for a visa. The scheme is part of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP).

This is due to skills and experience shortages in the area. Part of the criteria is that you are aged between 21 – 55. There are also language proficiency, work experience and education requirements.

There are 43 eligible backgrounds which are applicable for the visa including engineering, healthcare, skilled trades and food / catering.

In order to apply for a visa, an employment settlement plan needs to be completed whereby you will need to outline why you would like to move to the area.

The process involves the province nominating immigrants who have the desired skills and experience and who will contribute to the provincial and national economy. Ultimately the Federal Government decides who will be awarded the visas.

In terms of employment opportunities in Nova Scotia, there are also many other industries which are present such as the Film and Television production, aerospace, mining and tourism (Halifax is a popular Cruise terminal). The ICT sector is also a growing industry in this area. Manufacturing provides many jobs and Michelin is one of the largest companies present here.
