Good news for job hunters in Canada! Canada has come top in a poll commissioned by the job and recruitment website Monster (Monster.Ca) for job satisfaction. The survey found that 2/3 of Canadians are content with their jobs. Canada came first place well ahead of six other countries in the study (Netherlands, India, USA, UK, France and Germany). Job satisfaction is generally concerned with how content an individual is with his or her job.
The report found that:
More than 2 out of 10 Canadians love their job and would do it for free
4 out of 10 Canadians enjoy their job but could like it more
Almost 3 in 10 Canadians like it ‘well enough for now’
Only 5% don’t like their job and only 5% said they hated their job.
The Bank of Montreal (BMO) found similar results when they conducted a survey earlier this year. One in seven Canadians surveyed said they felt valued at work.. Nearly half of workers surveyed (47%) said that they feel that they are doing their dream job.
The BMO survey also found higher levels of job satisfaction in younger workers. A Work-Life Balance Index survey by office rental company Regus in June this year found that young Canadians were generally happy with their work-life balance, in particular if they were running their own businesses. This may be due to the fact that young people prioritise work-life balance more compared to other generations. These results however contrast with the Monster.ca report which found that young people are most unhappy at work.
8000 people were surveyed in the Monster.ca survey using the monthly global survey from the research company GfK GLOBOBUS. The Bank of Montreal survey was carried out by Pollara and 1005 Canadians were surveyed for this poll.
