1884 was a very good year, especially for us as it was when we started out but there are a few other things that occurred that year too.
1. John Mason
In 1884 the company was founded by Mrs. Mary Mason in Liverpool, who started out by helping husband John with his carting business. It might seem hard to imagine nowadays but when the company began we used horse and carts.
2. Doctor Attempts Cremation
Dr. William Price attempted to cremate the body of his son, Jesus Christ Price on 18th January, which set a legal precedent for cremation in the United Kingdom.
3. The Oxford English Dictionary
Something we are all aware of today but the Oxford English Dictionary was first published on 1st February 1884.
4. Invention Of Local Anaesthesia Is Made Public
On 15th September the invention of local anesthesia by Karl Koller, an Austrian ophthalmologist was made public at a medical congress in Germany.
5. Notable Births
German physician and biochemist Otto Fritz Meyerhaf was born on 12th April, who won a Nobel Prize. Also, Eleanor Roosevelt who was born 11th October was the longest serving First Lady of the United States whilst her husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt was president.
6. Kodak
A camera is essential for any traveller, but did you know that in the same year that John Mason was founded (1884), Kodak founder George Eastman patented the process of storing film in rolls?
