Moving and Shipping to Hong Kong

 
It is often described as a place where East meets West and there is no doubt of both Eastern influences from China and Western influences in the former British Colony. The official languages are Cantonese Chinese and English. A multicultural population means there are also a lot of other languages spoken in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China. It is characterised by its tall buildings and skylines which create a breathtaking skyline across the mountainous landscape . The region also has a reputation for being a culture and entertainment hub with many recreational activities available, making it a popular destination for international visitors and tourists also. Residents and visitors can also benefit from many green areas, although the region is very urbanised, it is also hope to national reserves and country parks.

As the region of Hong Kong is a very densely populated area, with approximately 7 million residents, many expatriates live in high rise apartments. It is often ranked in global surveys as an expensive city for expatriates, however it is also often cited as one of the best places in the world to do business due to its highly capitalist economic structure and well developed infrastructure.

Shipping to Hong Kong

If you are shipping your personal effects and household goods to Hong Kong, you will need to be aware of the following customs regulations. Your International Move Manager will also provide you with a full copy of regulations with your quotation.

Shipping Wine and Alcohol to Hong Kong

If you are deciding to take alcohol in your shipment, an inventory of all of the bottles will be required for Customs procedures. Details will need to be included such as quantity, % alcohol content and size of bottle. Your Move Manager will be able to assist further and advise on your specific circumstances.

Shipping food items to Hong Kong

Small amounts of food for personal use only are allowed if they are cans and non-perishable. The food items must be unopened and in a durable to prevent spillages during transit.

International Pet Relocation

Pets, dogs, cats and birds will require an import licence. Quarantine will also be necessary for between 1-6 months depending on origin country’s export requirements.

A Health Certificate is needed (issued not more than 14 days prior to departure of the pet).

Additional Regulations

– An Import licence will be needed if you are planning to import a protected species item e.g. feathers, furs etc. Such items will be inspected upon arrival in Hong Kong.

– Import licences are required for plants.

– Dangerous items such as fireworks are not permitted in shipments.
